Let’s get real, times have indeed changed. Society is progressing, and it’s nice to see that people, especially the young generation, can express themselves in a comfortable way. But some lines can be crossed, boundaries can become very blurred and some actions can be a tad out of line. The young generation has become a hot topic on social media; how they speak, how they handle life, and even how their lifestyles have become ‘lost in translation’.
There’s a fine line between being coddled and living a comfortable life. One requires self-awareness and an understanding of cultural values outside of their own micro circles. Life has more to it than just spending and living the Instagramable lifestyle. There’s career development, academic success, and being a positive member of society.
For instance, how is it normal to go on social media and casually aspire to have no career path and depend on your parent’s finances? Life is not about getting everything handed to you on a silver plate. The most successful people have worked really hard to get where they are. There is no shame in getting a little push, but total dependence on your family or social network should not be the narrative.
Even Western communities embrace their own values and live a meaningful life. We can’t let our youth and future generations let go of their identities and core values and get impacted by a tiny part of the West that isn’t representative of either culture.
