Call of Duty for 2023 was recently rumored to be scrapping the plan for MW II DLC and shift to a full game release, and now thanks to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier we have a little more information on the story aspect. Along with some other details.
As per the previous rumor, the game is set to be developed by Sledgehammer as the main studio, and Infinity Ward will supervise the development. Schreier once again reiterates that it will be a full game as opposed to the previously planned “premium expansion.” That being said, the game is still sticking within the Modern Warfare universe.
Call of Duty 2023 will continue with the MW II story
According to Schreier, the story of this upcoming game is planned to carry the story over from MW II. Which could mean players will get some resolution of what happens following the current game’s episodic raid. Right now, the raid only has one episode available. With episode 2 planned to launch in the middle of the recently launched second season. And for those unaware, the raid episodes are a narrative continuation of the campaign. What isn’t entirely clear is what the overall theme of the story in this year’s game will be.
Those who have finished MW II’s campaign will have an idea of where the story in the remake of the franchise is eventually headed. But it’s not clear if the game this year will be a part of that. Schreier also notes that people familiar with the development have said plans could change. For instance, the current plan is to bring MW II’s maps and modes over to this year’s title. But that may shift. If it sticks, then it wouldn’t be surprising if players got to keep access to some of the content. Notably weapons and skins that are available in the current game.
Activision is also said to want the upcoming game to “feel like a full release and an extension of MW II” at the same time. So expect a lot of content to play through at launch.
Here’s what’s up with this year’s Call of Duty:
– It’s more Modern Warfare — led by Sledgehammer, supervised by Infinity Ward
– Was originally “premium expansion” but morphed into full game
– Current plan is to continue MW2 story and carry over MW2 contenthttps://t.co/PQGONp8Bks— Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier) February 23, 2023
