New York: Thousands of Muslim devotees attended the Ashura procession in Brooklyn, New York to pay homage to Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of the holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his local companions who rendered their precious lives for the Nobel cause of justice and restoration of forgotten Islam.
Yaum-i-Ashura is observed every year on Muharram 10 with solemnity to pay homage to Imam Hussain and other martyrs of Karbala.
The 10 Muharram-ul-Haram processions were taken out from the Al-Mahdi Center on Coney Island Avenue also known as Little Pakistan, Brooklyn, New York, and culminated on Foster Avenue, after passing through its traditional routes through Coney Island.
The mourners including women and children mourned and chanted slogans like ‘Labbaik Ya Hussain’ in the procession and continued to beat their chests and heads in memory of the tragic martyrdom of Imam Hussain and Ahlulbait in the soil of Karbala at the hands of evil forces of Yazid.
Along with followers of other religions including Shiiats, Sunni brothers also participated in administrative activities in the procession.
Roadside Sabeels were also set up. The volunteers were serving the mourners with water and juices on the occasion.
During the procession, the participants also raised slogans of Labbaik O Hussain (AS) and Labbaik O Zahra.
Religious Scholar Dr. Sakhawat Hussain Sundralvi said in a conversation with VOSA TV that this procession is one of the biggest processions of 10th of Muharram in North America. He also prayed for the well-being of Muslims and all human beings.
Dr. Sakhawat Hussain Sundralvi also thanked the journalists and administration members who covered all the people participating in the procession.
