Emergency services are attending a serious crash in South Waikato.
Three people have been seriously injured after a crash on State Highway 1 in Waikato.
The highway has been closed 3km north of Tīrau after the two-vehicle crash blocked it in both directions, a statement from police said.
Two ambulances, a rapid response unit, and two helicopters rushed to the crash at 11am, a St John spokesperson said.
Paramedics assessed and treated two patients in a critical condition who were airlifted to Waikato hospital.
A third patient in a serious condition was transported to Waikato hospital via road.
Motorists travelling towards Cambridge on State Highway 1 should expect lengthy delays, police said.
Diversions would be signposted.
The Serious Crash Unit was attending.
