Kaizer Chiefs have had a busy January transfer window, with three players announced as things stand.
Chiefs have attacked the current market aggressively, and have been rewarded with decent acquisitions as they hope for change.
The club currently finds itself fifth in the Betway Premiership where they have been inconsistent. They were embarrassed 4-0 by Mamelodi Sundowns in a Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final was well. That loss arguably was the turning point for the Chiefs coaching staff and management in terms of their approach. From there, they knew they needed to help youngsters Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi, Wandile Duba and Samkelo Zwane with some experience.
Chiefs still looking to add one or two
With that in mind, they went on to sign DRC international winger Glody Lilepo, striker Tashreeq Morris and Thabo Cele. But according to reports, Chiefs are looking to add one or two more before the window slams shut. Here are three players we feel could still sign for Amakhosi on deadline day.
- Thembinkosi Lorch:
The one to watch on the side of Chiefs this window is Lorch. The club management are believed to be hard at work, trying to sign the player from Sundowns. It is now looking like the deal may not happen as the Brazilians don’t want to strengthen a rival. This publication recently reported that Wydad Casablanca is now in the driving seat with former coach and close friend Rulani Mokwena driving the interest. Amakhosi still have hope as Wydad would have to clear one foreign space first.
2. Sihle Nduli:
The Stellenbosch FC midfielder is out of contract at Cape Winelands side at the end of the current season. It is rumoured that Chiefs are really interested in signing him, with a lot of movement happening behind the scenes. The Glamour Boys have already signed Cele for the midfielder but that won’t stop them from adding another quality player if possible. It is expected that if Nduli doesn’t sign today, he will sign on a free at the end of the season.
3. Mohamed ‘Tshabalala’ Husseini:
The Simba SC and Tanzania international captain is a outside chance at this point. Reports emerged last night that Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi asked the club to sign Husseini for the left-back position. It seems unlikely that his club will release him mid-season but maybe they re-visit their long-standing interest in him later.
Which player would you like to sign?
Chiefs fans, which of Lorch, Nduli or Husseini would you choose if you could sign just one today? Feel free to leave your choices in the comments below.
