Three people have been rescued in North Canterbury this evening when their dingy was swept out to sea.
Police say the people were seen waving at about 5.40pm from South Bay, Kaikōura, where they kept getting swept away by a strong current about a kilometre off-shore.
A spokesperson says police, with help from a recreational vessel, helped tow the dingy back to shore a short time later.
They say all three people were wearing life jackets.
Police say it’s a good reminder for people to wear life jackets, have two forms of waterproof communication on board and know the conditions before heading out on the water.
