In addition to such treatments as massages, body treatments, facials, pedicures, and manicures, there’s also a pool, whirlpool, the HaloSauna, which is poolside (a five-sensory wellness booth that blends dry salt therapy, infrared sauna, chromatherapy, aromatherapy, and guided meditation), a fitness room, a hair salon, and monthly specials.

Two locker rooms for men and women feature lockers, robes, sandals, a steam room, relaxing areas, tea, treats, water, and towels, both dry and cold ones with cucumbers.

And in the summer, there’s a long outdoor balcony where you can soak in some rays and enjoy a drink or meal before or after your service.

2. Elmwood Spa Toronto

In a beautiful old brick building on Elm Street that once housed Toronto’s first YWCA 130 years ago, the onetime Elmwood Women’s Club (1982) is now one of the city’s favourite spas. All treatment rooms are named after a shade of blue because historically, going to the “spa” was about taking therapeutic waters. Speaking of which, they have one pool, two steam rooms, and two whirlpools. You can also order a tasty Thai-inspired lunch or dinner from Bangkok Garden below the spa, but you should make reservations.

3. The Windsor Arms Hotel Spa

Another Yorkville treasure, this beautiful boutique hotel was originally built in 1927 before being completely rebuilt in 1999. There’s an afternoon tea on offer before/after your services which range from body treatments, deep tissue massages, rejuvenating facials and more. Located on the fourth and fifth floor, the spa also connects with an adjoining outdoor, south-facing terrace, offering guests panoramic views of the city while enjoying a heated saltwater pool, a luxurious healing Salt Cave (I’ve tried elsewhere and it’s very relaxing), and a deluxe full-service gym.

4. Miraj Hammam Spa

Housed on the fifth floor of the Shangri-la Toronto Hotel on lower University Avenue between the entertainment and financial districts, this spa says it “is an urban sanctuary rooted in centuries-old traditions. Our spa reimagines the timeless rituals of the Middle East into immersive, restorative experiences tailored to modern lifestyles.” Along those lines is Hammam & Gommage (steam and body exfoliation) as you lay relaxed on warm marble with an invigorating full body Gommage (exfoliation) using eucalyptus-infused black Moroccan soap. You can also add Rhassoul Clay Body Mask (a stimulating mineral-rich clay rhassoul masque) or a Turkish Bath Ritual, which also includes a hydrating cleanse within a cloud of foam. You also get access to state-of-the-art gym equipment, a serene 20-metre lap pool, steam room, sauna, and jacuzzi.

5. The Spa at the St. Regis

This 31st-floor sanctuary in the sky at the St. Regis Toronto Hotel in the city’s financial district offers a 15,000-square-foot luxury spa with a fitness centre and infinity-edge salt water lap pool. There are revitalizing massages, rejuvenating facials, invigorating body scrubs, and nourishing wraps, plus a steam room, dry sauna, and state-of-the-art wellness facilities. Current specials include a lunch time peel (for your face), secret of the rose massage, a couples floating sound bath experience and weekly poolside and water yoga.
