Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says we know Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has dampened expectations around the budget being released and has said Australians need to get ready for some tough decisions ahead.
“I can reveal this afternoon that the deficit for 22, 23 will be substantially less than the $78 billion anticipated by treasury in April in its pre-election budget forecasts,” he said
“The deficits will be lower, partly because of the strong commodity prices particularly from coal driving up royalties.”
“Countering these increased royalties though are the interest rate raises which make the government’s debt bill more expensive.”
