A candidate endorsed by former President Donald Trump won the GOP primary in Kentucky Tuesday defeating a candidate supported by Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, in a matchup billed as the first Trump vs. DeSantis battle.
On Tuesday evening, the AP declared Daniel Jay Cameron, Kentucky’s 51st Attorney General, the winner of the Republican primary, securing 45.7 percent of the vote, while Kelly Craft, a former UN ambassador endorsed by DeSantis, garnered a mere 17 percent.
DeSantis quietly issued his endorsement for Craft on the eve of the election, sending political shockwaves throughout the GOP as he clashed with Trump’s pick.
“When you vote tomorrow, Tuesday, May 16th, vote for my friend, Kelly Craft, and get Kentucky on the path to becoming a free state like Florida,” he stated in the endorsement obtained by Fox News Digital.
Cameron’s win was celebrated in MAGA circles on social media.
Trump himself thus far has not issued a statement on Cameron’s victory.
Cameron will go on to face off against Gov. Andy Beshear (D-Ky.) on Nov. 7.
Will the mainstream media acknowledge Cameron’s primary victory as a litmus test for the impact of Trump’s endorsement, or will they disregard this crucial development as it reflects poorly on DeSantis for endorsing a candidate who ultimately lost?
