A new report has surfaced, claiming that Twitter may charge businesses $1,000 a month to keep the Gold badge. This report has been provided by The Information, but it’s unclear when will this take place.
Twitter may charge business a whopping $1,000 to keep the Gold badge
This is based on internal messages seen by the outlet. Those messages also reveal that Twitter plans to charge an extra $50 per month to add badges to each account affiliated with the business.
This actually goes hand-in-hand with a screenshot that Matt Navarra shared (below). That screenshot shows what seems to be a conversation between Twitter product manager Evan Jones, and an unnamed business.

As many of you know, Twitter is offering both Blue and Gold badges at this point. Blue badges are reserved for people, while Gold badges are here for business. There’s also a third option that is irrelevant to this article.
Gold badges are a part of Twitter’s ‘Verification for Organizations’ program
Now, the Gold badges are offered as part of the Verification for Organizations program. This basically allows companies to “verify and distinguish themselves on Twitter”. There are a number of perks included here.
It is worth noting that Twitter still didn’t confirm that this change will take place. It’s not exactly a secret that Elon Musk wants to make Twitter properly profitable, so… who knows. It does sound pricey, though. For some companies, it may not make a difference, but for many smaller ones, it sure will.
Twitter still didn’t react to this information, at least at the time of writing this article. The company will probably react to it soon, either to confirm it, or to deny everything, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Elon Musk did make a ton of changes since he took over. Some of them were good, others, not so much. A lot of people also lost their jobs in the process.
