Two people died after a crash on State Highway 14, in Wheki Valley, 20km south of Whangārei this evening.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash near the intersection of Otuhi Road about 6pm.
The two victims died at the scene, police said.
The road is expected to remain closed for some time, and there are no available diversions.
Police have asked motorists to avoid the area or expect significant delays.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash have begun.
