President Uhuru Kenyatta has eulogised Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth as a great leader who participated in the transformation of the world.
In a statement sent to the newsroom on Friday, September 9, the Head of State expressed his sorrow over the Queen’s demise which occurred yesterday, Thursday, September 8.
Notably, he underlined the role the Queen played in fostering ties between Kenya and the United Kingdom (UK).
“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was a towering icon of selfless service to humanity and a key figurehead of not only the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of Nations where Kenya is a distinguished member but the entire world,” Uhury mourned.

Further, the outgoing Head of State expressed that the Queen shared great history with Kenya given that her reign began during her tour of the country.
“Uhuru received the sad news of the passing on of Queen Elizabeth II with great sorrow and a deep sense of loss saying the People and the Government of the Republic of Kenya stand in solidarity with the Royal Family, the United Kingdom and the world in mourning the departed monarch.
“The Head of State recalled Kenya’s close ties with Queen Elizabeth II noting that the longest-serving monarch in British history took over from her father, King George VI, who died while she was on safari in Kenya,” read the statement in part.
Earlier, President-elect William Ruto eulogised the monarch as a symbol of unity in the Commonwealth adding that Kenya’s economy was boosted during her over 70-year reign through various programmes.
“She steered the Commonwealth’s evolution into a forum for effective multilateral engagement whose potential to drive tremendous socioeconomic progress remains incontestable and redounds to the Queen’s historic legacy.
‘We will miss the cordial ties she enjoyed with Kenya and may her memories continue to inspire us,” Ruto eulogised.
Uhuru and Ruto are among thousand of Kenyans who sent messages of condolence to the Royal family following the death of the Queen at the age of 96 years.
Queen Elizabeth will be succeeded by her eldest son King Charles III.
