Unwetter in Portugal: Portugal kämpft mit neuen Unwettern und übervollen Stauseen

Nach dem schweren Atlantiksturm «Kristin» und angesichts weiterer Regenfälle haben die Behörden in Portugal große Mengen Wasser aus übervollen Stauseen abgelassen. Binnen zwei Tagen seien rund 500 Millionen Kubikmeter Wasser kontrolliert in Flüsse geleitet worden, berichtete der staatliche TV-Sender RTP unter Berufung auf die Umweltbehörde. Das entspreche dem Verbrauch im Großraum von Lissabon mit seinen drei Millionen Einwohner in drei Jahren.

Fast alle Flüsse des Landes führten bereits Hochwasser und für die kommenden Tage wurden weitere Unwetter mit Regen erwartet. Die Regierung verlängerte angesichts der widrigen Wetterverhältnisse den Notstand für das ganze Land bis kommenden Sonntag, an dem auch die Stichwahl um das Präsidentenamt stattfindet. 

Das neue Tiefdruckgebiet, das in der Nacht zu Montag über das Land im Südwesten Europas hinwegzog, brachte erhebliche Niederschläge. Die Böden sind jedoch schon durch die vergangenen Stürme sehr gesättigt und können kaum noch zusätzliches Wasser aufnehmen.

Der Straßen- und Bahnverkehr war in mehreren Regionen durch Überschwemmungen und Erdrutsche behindert. An den Küsten galt wegen stürmischer Winde und hohen Wellengangs die zweithöchste Alarmstufe Orange. 

Behörde registriert über 260 Einsätze

Die Behörde für Katastrophenschutz ANEPC registrierte zwischen Mitternacht und Montagmorgen 263 Einsätze im Zusammenhang mit dem Unwetter, die meisten davon in der Region Lissabon und dem Tejo-Tal, wie die staatliche Nachrichtenagentur Lusa meldete. Umgestürzte Bäume, Überschwemmungen, Gebäudeschäden und Erdrutsche seien die häufigsten Gründe gewesen. 

Über neue Opfer wurde zunächst nichts mitgeteilt. Allerdings waren bei dem Sturm «Kristin» am vergangenen Mittwoch mindestens fünf Menschen ums Leben gekommen. Und seither gab es bei Aufräumarbeiten drei weitere Tote und Hunderte Verletzte.
