United States of America representative for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district, Ms Ilhan Omar, is in Kenya.
Ms Omar, who once lived in Kenya as a refugee after fleeing her home country Somali, has already met a number of leaders from the vast Northern region in Kenya.
The political leader was amongt Somali nationals who resided at the Dadaab Refugee camp which is located in Garissa Country.

Nairobi News has established that Ms Omar had dinner with the leaders from Northern Kenya on Tuesday.
In a tweet, former Isiolo Deputy Governor Mr Simba Guleid said the establishment of a Congressional Caucus in Washington for North Eastern region was among the issues discussed during the meeting.

Ms Omar has been pushing the USA to intervene and help the situation in Somalia.
In a letter dated December 15, 2022, Ms Omar urged the US Congress to come up with a strategy that can stabilize Somalia.
“We write to urge you to extend and redesignate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalia for an 18 months’ period. The current TPS for Somalia is set to expire on March 17, 2023,” the letter reads in part.

Eight members of the congress signed the letter addressed to US Secretary of State, Mr Antony Blinken, and Secretary of Homeland Security Mr Alejandro Mayorkas.
The eight included Ms Omar, Ms Pramila Jayapal, Mr Jim Schakowzy, Jesus Garcia, Yvette D Clarke, Joyce Beatty and Adriano Espaillat.
Ms Omar is also expected to meet President William Ruto before heading to Somalia, then to Djibouti, after which she will return to the US.
