Newly released video shows the dramatic moments a Good Samaritan chased down a fleeing drunk driver who fatally struck an off-duty Texas detective.
Dylan Molina was driving a Jeep Wrangler with a blood alcohol concentration twice the legal limit when the accident occurred on November 27, 2021. In the moments after the crash, video shows 26-year-old Molina stumbling out from his busted vehicle and attempting to run away.
He’s pursued by another man, identified by WFAA as Justin Gonzalez, until he falls to the ground.
“Think you’re going to f—— leave? You f——- killed someone!” the bystander yells at Molina. “You killed somebody! You stay right there.”
Gonzalez then holds him down on the ground before responding authorities arrive.
Before the crash, Molina sped through a red light and slammed into a Chevy Impala. Euless Police Department Detective Alejandro “Alex” Cervantes was behind the wheel with his wife and two young children inside, police said.
Cervantes was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was hospitalized with critical life-threatening injuries. Both of their children also suffered serious injuries, authorities said.
Molina was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter and three counts of intoxication assault.
On Jan. 30, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years in prison for Cervantes’ death, ten years for the injuries Cervantes’ wife and children suffered and six months for a previous DWI.
Cala Richardson, the bartender who served Molina before the deadly crash, was also charged earlier this month with one count of sale to certain persons.
