Paris (dpa) – German air taxi manufacturer Volocopter has completed a test flight near the equestrian and pentathlon venue during the Olympic Games. The validation phase for the regular operation of electric flights in the city was launched from a specially opened airfield at Saint-Cyr-l’École near Paris. Featuring several rotors on the roof that enable vertical take-off and landing, these unique aircraft are set to revolutionise aviation and offer an alternative to road traffic, especially in densely populated cities.
The company based in Bruchsal near Karlsruhe needs a licence from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (Easa) to transport passengers. The company expects to be able to offer its first flights to customers in 2025.
