Perth Scorchers star Josh Inglis has branded WA Premier Mark McGowan an “absolute muppet” and delivered a scathing response to his state’s tightened border restrictions.
In a since-deleted post, Inglis, a Western Australian native, took aim at McGowan’s decision to delay the reopening of the state’s borders.
“You have had two years to sort this out,” Inglis wrote on Instagram, a post later deleted but widely shared.
“Two years of bragging about how good you are. Two years to sort out your disaster of a hospital system with your record surplus.
“Two years of separating families and destroying peoples mental states in the name of health.
“Two years, we all did what you asked of us so we could get out of this. And you spit in our faces and take away any hope West Aussies had of this ending.
“You are a disgrace to this state and a disgrace to this country. Absolute muppet.“
Inglis also plays for Western Australia, and is seen as Australia’s back-up wicketkeeper behind Alex Carey.
His social media spray was in response to Mr McGowan announcing last night that the state would not reopen its border on February 5 as planned due to the “new state of emergency” because of the Omicron variant.

WA’s reopening was previously tied to a double-dose vaccination rate of 90 per cent of residents aged 12 and up.
Mr McGowan flagged a new third dose target last night of 80 to 90 per cent of eligible West Australians, and said “a whole range of things” would be required before WA would reconsider reopening to the rest of the world.
Western Australian athletes have been forced to be based interstate because of the state’s border restrictions, which has played havoc with several competitions, including the Big Bash League.
WA also lost the fifth Ashes Test this month, with the match shifted to Hobart because of border and quarantine issues.
