The Management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the Western Region has apologised to residents of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis for their inability to supply water to the Metropolis since the evening of Tuesday, June 14, 2022.
The company said it was due to a problem with the power supply to both Daboase and Inchaban Water Treatment Plants.
A statement issued by Nana Yaw Barima Barnie, Western and Central Regional Communications Manager of GWCL, and copied to the GNA, indicated that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) had three of their pylons fell off last Tuesday evening during the downpour.
As a result, the ECG was currently supplying power to Takoradi from the Central Region.
However, due to the long distance involved, there was a significant drop in the voltage for which reason GWCL equipment, which required stable and normal voltage, was unable to start.
The statement said even though residents have power in their homes, the GWCL plants cannot operate due to the low voltage level.
Meanwhile, since the incident occurred, the company has not been able to produce water from the two plants which are the main sources of water supply to the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
However, it said, the ECG has given assurance that works would be completed by the close of Saturday, June 18, 2022, “barring any unforeseen challenges.”
