WPSD meteorologists will continue with a Weather Authority Alert into next week as a prolonged heat wave sticks around the Local 6 region.
After dangerous heat index readings near 110° on Thursday, we may see just slightly lower numbers Friday and Saturday, with peak heat indices around 105°.
By Sunday and the first half of next week, we will likely see even hotter conditions for our area. Daytime highs will move into the upper half of the 90s, and heat index readings will again soar to near 110° or higher. More heat alerts will likely be issued for the first half of next week.
There is a little bit of good news though, as a minor cool down is expected by the end of the week. Slightly cooler high temperatures in the upper 80s, along with slightly lower humidity is possible by Thursday and Friday as we kick off the month of August.
