WPSD meteorologists have activated a Weather Authority Alert for Sunday and next week, as a prolonged heat wave appears likely over the Local 6 region.
Saturday will feature many areas with peak heat index readings near or above 105°, but we will still have at least a chance of a few scattered storms to help cool a few areas down.
By Sunday and into next week, a dome of high pressure overhead will start to shut down rain chances and send high temps into the mid 90s. Daily peak heat index readings could reach at least 110°, possibly as high as 115° in some spots.
