Liverpool welcome Leicester City to Anfield in the last Friday Night Football clash of 2022.
Victory will see Liverpool stay sixth heading into New Year, whilst Leicester could go tenth with a win if Brentford lose elsewhere.
Team News
Ibrahima Konate could return for Liverpool after he missed their Boxing Day win at Aston Villa due to his delayed return, following France’s run to the World Cup Final.
Curtis Jones (shin), James Milner (hamstring), Arthur Melo (thigh), Luis Diaz (knee), Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota (both calf) remain absent.
Leicester will be without midfielder, Dennis Praet after he suffered a hip injury during their Boxing Day defeat against Newcastle.
James Justin, Ricardo Pereira (both Achilles), Jonny Evans (calf), James Maddison and Ryan Bertrand (knee) remain absent.
Stat Attack
- Liverpool have lost just two of their last six league meetings against Leicester (W4, L2).
- Leicester are winless in their last 11 league visits to Anfield (D2, L9).
- Liverpool are yet to win four consecutive league games at home to Leicester in the Premier League era.
- Darwn Nunez has scored three goals in two of his last three league starts for Liverpool at Anfield.
- Leicester have scored eight goals in their last three away matches without conceding (W3).
Prediction
Now unbeaten in five of their last six games, Liverpool finally seem to be finding their stride once again following a clinical attacking display to beat Villa, despite having had to defend well for large spells yet their end product was ultimately the difference.
Leicester meanwhile were hustled all over the place by Newcastle from the first whistle in a difficult performance, where they struggled with the Magpies’ technicality and pace which cannot be repeated here against even more ruthless opposition so a huge improvement is required.
Liverpool though have struggled to keep clean sheets this season so there is hope for the Foxes if they can sort out their toothless end product, although I can’t help but feel that Liverpool should have enough to win this clash rather comfortably.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Leicester
