Arsenal returned to the Premier League summit after a 23-month absence following the latest round of action.
An early brace from club captain, Martin Odegaard plus William Saliba’s curled strike saw Mikel Arteta’s Gunners thrash Bournemouth in a 3-0 away win, which put Arsenal top of the table for the first time since September 2020.
Quick-fire goals from Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva saw Manchester City slip to second after snatching a 3-3 draw at Newcastle, having led through Ilkay Gundogan’s opener before goals from Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier had put the Magpies 3-1 up after 54 minutes.
Rodrigo and Jack Harrison finished each other’s assists as Leeds clinically battered Chelsea 3-0 at Elland Road to go third, after Brendan Aaronson had put them ahead following his interception of Edouard Mendy’s goalkeeping fumble.
Harry Kane headed in his 250th goal as a Tottenham player as his header proved the difference in a scrappy encounter against Wolves, which left Spurs rounding out the top four.
Down in the relegation zone, winless West Ham slipped to rock-bottom as Alexis Mac Allister’s penalty and Leandro Trossard’s 66th minute effort lifted Brighton to fifth.
A late brace from substitute, Che Adams saw Southampton snatch a comeback win at Leicester who had initially led through James Maddison, with their second defeat dropping Brendan Rogers’ Foxes to second-bottom in the table.
Wolves slipped to third-bottom after Manchester United climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford, with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford finding the net whilst Mohamed Salah netted a consolatory header for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.
Elsewhere, Aleksandar Mitrovic’s 90th minute header gave Fulham a dramatic 3-2 home victory over local West-London rivals, Brentford after Bobby Reid and Joao Palhinha’s goals had been cancelled out by Christian Norgaard and Ivan Toney in an entertaining battle.
Wilfried Zaha’s brace and Jean-Philippe Mateta’s 71st minute goal fired Crystal Palace to a comeback 3-1 win over Aston Villa, having fallen behind to Ollie Watkins’ fifth-minute opener for the Villains.
Finally, Demarai Gray’s late 88th minute strike rescued Everton a 1-1 draw at home to Nottingham Forest, after Frank Lampard’s Toffees had fallen behind to Brennan Johnson’s maiden Premier League goal seven minutes earlier.
