Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has reiterated the need to trim his squad before adding further bodies.
The South Londoners have made seven permanent signings during the summer window but will now need to see some outgoings before further bolstering their side.
Jones, who will see his team kick-off their League One campaign at Wigan Athletic next Saturday, said: “What we have to do is make sure we have a really balanced squad and keep adding quality.
“At the minute, yes, we’re at our maximum in terms of players so we can’t add until we move. But we generally have got to be in a good place where we can add.
“We’re always looking to improve the squad. We’ve got just under a month until the window shuts, and we will endeavour to keep trying to be better week in week out.”
One player who the Addicks have been negotiations with is goalkeeper Asmir Begovic. The stopper is a free agent after leaving QPR at the end of last season.
Fellow keeper Harry Isted left SE7 for Burton Albion last week but when asked if that meant there was an opportunity to bring a goalkeeper in immediately, Jones only responded: “We’re looking to improve all areas, that’s what we said.”
Jones still has his former Luton Town players Dan Potts and Danny Hylton on trial at The Valley. The former featured for the last 10 minutes of Saturday’s 2-0 home win against Championship Portsmouth in the Addicks’ final pre-season run out.
When asked if he will need to make a decision shortly on the duo, Jones said: “There’s no rush but we also want to be respectful to them.
“I know these players very well, players that have done magnificently for me in the past and have had fantastic careers. We’d like to be able to do both and we’ll see.”
