One of the players acquired by the LA Lakers in the trade with the Nets gave the team a glimpse of what he can bring, six years ago.
The lesser name acquired by the LA Lakers along with Dorian Finney-Smith is fellows Nets players Shake Milton.
While Finney-Smith’s name had been mentioned in trade rumors, Shake Milton’s inclusion was more of a surprise, and a potentially pleasant one.
For Milton, he may see it as destiny that he finally ends up in LA, after attending a pre-draft workout with the team in 2018.
Shake Milton’s workout with LA Lakers
Milton was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2018 in the second round, with the 54th overall selection.
The Lakers had taken Svi Mykhailiuk three picks earlier, who never established a role with the team and is now on the Utah Jazz.
Milton was in their consideration, attending a pre-draft practice at the LA Lakers facilities.
And speaking after the workout, Milton was quoted via Silver Screen And Roll, commenting about his desire to show his defensive prowess.
He said: ”You don’t want to be the one getting scored on all the time and you want to communicate to your teammates and let them know what’s going on behind their head.
“Just being long, being active, being pesky. Using my hands a lot to try and get deflections.”
He also added that he willing to play any position in order to get on the court, adding: “The way the NBA game is moving nowadays, it’s pretty much position-less basketball, so as long as you’re out there and you know how to play, I feel like you have a spot, and I think that’s where I fit in.”
Milton role on Lakers
Shake Milton’s willingness to mix in defensively is what the Lakers need, this has been their undoing at times this season, despite some strong recent improvement.
Milton will be a role player rather than a starter, and his attitude shows he is exactly the type of character the squad needs.
His recent stat-line in the Nets recent loss to San Antonio Spurs showed he’s more than just a plucky defensive player too. He scored 16 points and provided 12 assists, and now joins a LA Lakers squad led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
