Kaizer Chiefs, in an ironic turn of events, will meet Young Africans under the tutelage of their former boss Nasreddine Nabi.
Toyota Cup action for Kaizer Chiefs
The Glamour Boys meet up with Tanzanian outfit Young Africans, aka Yanga SC, on July 28th in the Toyota Cup in Johannesburg. Speaking of Yanga SC, Chiefs might also be on a scouting operation when they meet the Tanzanian giants. 30-year-old Congolese striker Fiston Mayele was on the Chiefs shortlist at the tail-end of 2022, and now it appears they’ve reignited their interest. He scored 15 goals and bagged five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions last term. Popular journalist Micky Jnr reports as much on his X account. Mayele is a player Nabi knows well after they worked together at Young Africans.
Four fresh faces to look out for next season
The 19-year-old midfielder Siphesihle Tati, 18-year-old winger Nkosana Mbuthu, creative livewire Manqoba Ozoemena and 21-year-old goalkeeper Bontle Molefe are all on the brink of first-team football. Ozoemena, nicknamed Pelembe, recently bagged a hat-trick of assists in one DDC game. Judging by Mbuthu’s tall stature, he could become a serious handful for full-backs around South Africa.
“Kaizer Chiefs’ talent Siphesihle Tati is currently training with the senior side as he is being assessed by the coaching team. iDiski Times received information that the midfielder is currently training with the senior side, and he is under the assessment and watchful eye of Fernando Da Cruz, who will soon be announced as the assistant coach. ‘Zizo’, as he is affectionally, known had a good season in the DDC last season, carrying the Amakhosi side alongside Neo Bohloko, and helping them to finish in the top four,” iDiskiTimes wrote on June 30th.
Zwane is aiming high in 2024
22-year-old Samkelo Zwane had a season to forget last time out. However, he sounds keen to make up for lost time and become a regular fixture in the Amakhosi engine room. In the interview below, the stylish schemer looks as though he’s been putting some hours in with the gym equipment. He’s also got some lofty goals for 2024-2025. Like the four names above, he’ll also feel like a ‘new signing’ in some ways.
Will Nabi get one over his old side?
