Winter weather advisory in effect for south-central Pennsylvania
FROM LATE MORNING THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON. LET ME SHOW YOU OUR IMPACT DAY FORECAST. WE’RE STARTING OUT WITH A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR THE ENTIRE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY THAT’S GOES INTO EFFECT AT 7 A.M. AND CONTINUES UNTIL 4 P.M. TODAY. SO AS FAR AS HOW MUCH WE KNOW TO EXPECT, I THINK WE COULD GET A COATING TO AN INCH IN OUR SOUTHERN MOST COUNTY, SOUTHEASTERN COUNTIES, 1 TO 3 FOR MOST OF THE AREA. AND THEN YOU HAVE TO GET UP NORTH OF HARRISBURG, NORTHWEST OF HARRISBURG, TO GET INTO THAT 3 TO 6 INCH ZONE. THE SIX INCHES AT ELEVATION, MAINLY ABOVE A THOUSAND FEET. HERE’S A LOOK AT OUR NEWS 8 STORM TEAM FORECAST. TODAY WE HAVE SNOW DEVELOPING BETWEEN 9 TO 11. COULD SEE A FEW FLURRIES OUT THERE NOW, BUT BETWEEN 9 TO 11, THAT’S WHEN THE BULK OF THE STEADY SNOW MOVES IN. ROADS COULD QUICKLY BECOME SNOW COVERED IN SLICK. SO PLEASE USE CAUTION IF YOU’RE TRAVELING FROM LATE MORNING THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON. IN THE AFTERNOON THAT SNOW CHANGES OVER TO RAIN. I THINK BY 3:00 IN MOST SPOTS WILL HAPPEN FROM SOUTH TO NORTH. TEMPERATURES RISE INTO THE MID THIRTIES AND THEN THIS EVENING WE’LL HIT OUR HIGH IN THE UPPER THIRTIES. SOME SPOTS COULD EVEN HIT 40 THIS EVENING WITH RAIN TAPERING TO SHOWERS TONIGHT, MOSTLY CLOUDY, BREEZY. WINDS WILL STAY UP 10 TO 20 MILES PER HOUR AND THAT’S GOING TO KEEP OUR TEMPERATURES ABOVE FREEZING OVERNIGHT. TOMORROW WE’LL SEE MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES, BLUSTERY WINDS, WINDS 15 TO 25 MILES PER HOUR WITH SOME HIGHER GUSTS. AND THERE MIGHT BE A LINGERING FLURRY, BUT IT WON’T SLOW YOU DOWN TOMORROW. RIGHT NOW, TEMPERATURES ARE AT 34 IN CARLISLE, 32 FOR YORK, 31 IN LANCASTER. WE HAVE 32 DEGREES IN HARRISBURG. CHECK OUT OUR WIND SPEEDS TODAY. THEY’RE GOING TO BE COMING OUT OF THE SOUTHEAST. THAT WILL HELP TO BRING IN THE WARMER AIR AND TRANSITION SNOW OVER TO RAIN. BUT THEN FOR TOMORROW, THEY COME OUT OF THE NORTHWEST AND WEST, WHICH IS A COOLER WIND FOR US. AND WE WILL BE SEEING WIND SPEEDS UP TO 25 MILES PER HOUR. RIGHT NOW, THE FIRST INITIAL BAND OF SNOW LIFTING THROUGH NOT REALLY CAUSING MUCH MORE THAN JUST A FLURRY. AS YOU CAN SEE, THE BULK OF THE STORM IS STILL BACK IN THE MIDWEST WITH SNOW AND THEN RAIN HOT ON ITS HEELS. SO CENTER OF CIRCULATION OVER TENNESSEE WILL BE LIFTING INTO OHIO AS WE HEAD INTO THE AFTERNOON. LET ME SHOW YOU WHAT THE PREDICTOR WE SEE. A DRY MORNING COMMUTE FOR THE MOST PART. THEN THAT SNOW STARTS TO ARRIVE BETWEEN NINE AND 11. THERE WE ARE AT 11 MOST SPOTS PICKING UP THE SNOW. BY THE TIME WE HIT THE LUNCH HOUR OR SHORTLY THEREAFTER, ESPECIALLY ALONG THE MARYLAND LINE. AND THAT’S WHEN WE’LL TRANSITION OVER INTO RAIN. AND THAT RAIN WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD NORTHWARD THROUGH MID-AFTERNOON NOON. SO THIS IS ABOUT 3 P.M. MOST SPOTS SEEING THE RAIN BY THEN AS WE HEAD INTO THE EVENING HOURS. RAIN COULD BE A BIT HEAVY AT TIMES, ESPECIALLY EAST OF THE SUSQUEHANNA RIVER. THEN IT TAPERS TO SHOWERS AND WE’RE DONE WITH THAT SYSTEM BEHIND IT, THOUGH, VERY BLUSTERY FOR TOMORROW. LEFTOVER FLURRY WON’T BE RULED OUT. AND THEN AS WE HEAD INTO FRIDAY, PARTLY SUNNY, PRETTY UNEVENTFUL, MAYBE A STRAY FLURRY, BUT I DON’T THINK WE’LL SEE MUCH. LET ME SHOW YOU THE TEN DAY FORECAST. WE HAVE TEMPERATURES IN THE FORTIES HERE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. AFTER TODAY. EVEN INTO THE WEEKEND LOOKS FAIRLY MILD FOR JANUARY 44. ON SATURDAY, 46 ON SUNDAY. NEXT WEEK I DO SEE A COLDER START TO FEBRUARY. WE COULD BE IN THE THIRTIE
