Wolves’ forward, Fabio Silva has departed Anderlecht to join PSV Eindhoven until end of 2022-23 season in a loan switch.
Silva’s unexpected loan switch from Belgium’s Anderlecht to Netherlands’ PSV Eindhoven comes after defender, Ki-Jana Hoever saw his loan spell at the latter club terminated after making just 10 appearances for PSV this season.
Explaining the decision behind the loan club switch for Silva, Wolves’ Sporting Director – Matt Hobbs stated that PSV’s interest in Silva enabled Hoever to terminate his own loan stint whilst PSV continued to contribute to Hoever’s wages for rest of season.
Silva consequently leaves Anderlecht after scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in 30 appearances, with Hobbs praising the Belgian club for their “brilliant” development of Silva’s ability across his time at the club.
Hobbs however noted Anderlecht’s poor form and possibility of limited fixtures due to disappointing progress in various cup competitions, which could risk Silva’s prospects of making the Portugal Under-21s squad for this summer’s UEFA U21s Euros.
In terms of how Anderlecht has responded to Silva’s loan switch, Hobbs acknowledged their “great understanding” and “first rate” support in allowing Silva to move to PSV, who now will be expected to extract the same development as Silva experienced at Anderlecht.
Hobbs also confirmed that manager, Julen Lopetegui is monitoring Silva’s progress as he added: “Julen wants him to be back here for pre-season to see how he’s developed. The manager is keeping a close eye on him.”
PSV General Manager, Marcel Brands added that Silva’s ability to play as “a versatile forward” will provide “extra opportunities” in terms of tactics as the Dutch club battle Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar for Eredivisie plus KNVB Cup and Europa League titles.
As for Hoever, Wolves do plan to find him another club for the second half of this season with expectation that the selected club will “give him good minutes and the right style of football, without any other thoughts needing to come into play.”
