Wolves have signed forward, Goncalo Guedes from Valencia on a five-year contract in a £25.3 million transfer plus add-ons.
Guedes’ arrival brings his five-year spell in Valencia to an end with the Portugal international having netted 36 goals in 178 appearances for the La Liga club, during which they won 2018-19 Copa del Rey title after defeating Barcelona in the Final.
Wolves have paid an initial transfer fee of £25.3m to Valencia but there are various add-ons which will take the overall transfer fee even higher, with Guedes signing a five-year contract at Molineux until June 2027.
Speaking about Guedes’ arrival, Wolves’ Chairman – Jeff Shi explained that the club had been “monitoring” the 25 year-old forward – who is mainly is deployed at left-wing – for a while and is “very pleased” to finally complete his transfer.
Explaining why exactly Wolves had been keen to sign Guedes, Shi proceeded to comment: “He has natural talent and has performed very well across Europe and for his country, and we think he is well suited to the Premier League.
“We are always looking to improve the squad with high quality, and have been patient to make sure we got the right player.”
Shi also noted that Guedes had previously worked with their current manager – Bruno Lage during the latter’s time coaching Benfica’s youth set-up, plus played with various members of their current squad so believes he can “settle quickly into the group here.”
Guedes will wear the number 17 shirt and is set for his Premier League debut against Fulham at Molineux on Saturday 13 August at 3pm BST, with Shi adding: “Now, we are delighted that Goncalo is a Wolves player and look forward to giving him a warm welcome at Molineux this Saturday.”
On the international stage, Guedes made his senior debut for Portugal in 2015 and has since gone on to score seven goals in 32 appearances, plus was part of their 2018-19 title-winning UEFA Nations League squad.
Guedes’ arrival also comes just hours after defender, Conor Coady completed a season-long loan move to Everton.
