Ian Hamilton struck out five of the seven batters he faced across two innings of work.

Last year’s bullpen revelation could take on an even bigger role this season, perhaps as the Michael King-like, multi-inning weapon.

Scream weaver

Swingman Luke Weaver gave up three runs on four hits and a walk in a start that lasted only 1 ¹/₃ innings, though he was focused on repeating his revamped delivery — using more of a slide step and less of a leg kick.

Caught my eye

Austin Wells had his best offensive performance of the spring, going 2-for-3 with a double, home run and even a steal.

Though Wells is known for his bat, Aaron Boone has been encouraged by his defensive improvements behind the plate.

“I’ve been so impressed with how good of a catcher I think he’s becoming,” Boone said.
