Mamelodi Sundowns’ new goalkeeper Ronwen Williams says the Brazilians were the only club he was willing to sign for from SuperSport United.

Despite having been heavily linked with Orlando Pirates in the past few seasons, Williams has revealed that the Buccaneers never approached him.

The Bafana Bafana captain made a blockbuster move from Matsatsantsa to his longtime cross-town rivals Masandawana in July.
And the 32-year-old shot-stopper also seems to have claimed the number one spot in Bafana Ba Style’s goals having played all their games across all competitions this season.

“I never personally got anything from any other team. There were rumours here and there but nothing concrete,” Williams told Marawa Sports Worldwide as quoted by TimesLIVE.
“The only club or people I spoke to were people from Sundowns.
“There were always rumours. The rumour about Orlando Pirates has been there every season.
“I never met anyone or spoke to anyone from them. Maybe they contacted someone on my team, but not me personally.
“And like I said, I told Mr Stanley Matthews [SuperSport’s CEO] a year ago that the only club I was willing to go to in SA was Sundowns.”

Williams also explained what sets Masandawana apart from others and added that the Tshwane giants’ dominance won’t stop anytime soon.
“The work mentality at Sundowns is high. We have meetings every day where we discuss games and goals of the previous night,” he added.
“The coaches don’t sleep and share information at night. I don’t think that happens at other clubs. I mean no disrespect, but Sundowns is the best club in South Africa.
“They have dominated the league for a decade now and won’t stop anytime soon. Every season they are guaranteed to win at least a trophy.”
