Beta One UI 5 for Galaxy S21 devices available in US

Robert Triggs / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • The first beta of One UI 5 for Galaxy S21 devices is now available in the United States.
  • It appears this could be based on the second beta launched for other devices, so Galaxy S21 devices might not be too behind the curve.
  • You’ll need to use the Samsung Members app to see if you’re eligible for the beta.

In August, Android 13 became official. The newest version of Android is already available on Pixel phones, but Samsung phones are still waiting for it. Samsung has been running a beta program, but only for certain devices and in certain areas.

Today, though, it appears the Android 13-based One UI 5 is here for Galaxy S21 devices in the United States (via Droid-Life). This represents the first time Galaxy S21 phones have had a taste of Android 13 (well, in an official capacity, anyway).

As with previous rollouts of One UI betas, you’ll need to use the Samsung Members app to get the beta. Not everyone will get it, however. When you fire up the app, you should see a banner asking you to give One UI 5 a try on your Galaxy S21. If you don’t see the banner, you can’t try out the beta. Sometimes closing and re-opening the app a few times can make the banner appear.

Interestingly, the update appears to be different than the initial beta we’ve seen hit other devices in other countries. It’s possible this is the first beta for the Galaxy S21 series in the US but based on a later beta. That could mean that Galaxy S21 users in the US won’t need to catch up to the other programs.

One UI 5 will bring all of the core aspects of Android 13 to the Galaxy S21 series. It will also offer better Material You theming support, stackable widgets, and an enhanced Dex experience.
