The Australian’s Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan says China’s call for Russia to seek a ceasefire with Ukraine would suit Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.
“He currently controls most of Donbas. If he could stop the fighting before Ukraine gets any more of its territory back, that would probably suit him quite well,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.
Mr Sheridan said the ceasefire was not “necessarily against” Putin’s interest.
“Putin is under more pressure than he’s ever been – he’s very dangerous.”
