David Oginde Says Kenya Is Religious, Not Secular State: “It’s Not Under Discussion”

• David Oginde of CITAM church has said that Kenya is a religious country and not a secular one
• The Immediate firmer presiding bishop at CITAM said that how people practice and express religion is up for discussion but being secular is not
• A section of Kenya who watched him make the sentiments would, however, have none of it and maintained the country is secular

Former Christ Is The Answer Ministries (CITAM) presiding bishop, David Oginde, has said Kenya is a religious nation and not a secular country.

Constitution starts by acknowledging God

Oginde was speaking on NTV when he pointed out that Kenyans are very religious and find religion in everything they do.

“Things like prayers are part of our national lives when we go state functions, we start them with prayers, we get representatives of different religions to offer prayers,” he said.

“Our constitution starts by acknowledging God, the national anthem is a prayer…all of it. As a society, we are a religious people and we appreciate that God is at the center of what we do,” he added.

The former Bishop also said that we can only discuss how that is expressed and how it is practiced.

Not a secular nation

“The fact we are religious is not under discussion. I have heard people say that we are a secular nation, but we are not a secular nation,” said the man of God.

Oginde’s sentiments made him come under fire from a section of Kenyans who maintained that the country is secular and that there is a separation of the church and the state.

As it stands, the Constitution of Kenya provides for freedom of religion, separates church and state, and guards its citizens against religious discrimination and unwelcome religious pressure.

David Oginde Opens Leadership Consultancy Firm

In other news, David Oginde announced the launch of a firm dubbed “The Catalead” via his official Twitter handle on Friday, January 21.

According to David Oginde’s Linkedin account, he served as the chancellor of Pan African Christian (PAC) University between April 2011 and May 2021.

In October 2021, David Oginde urged Kenyans on social media to enlist in the mass voter registration ahead of the August 9 polls.
