People living in Gasparilla Mobile Estates have until Nov. 7, to find a new place to live, that’s according to a letter sent to park owners.
Some of the trailers in the mobile estates are used as vacation homes for families, while others call it home all year long.
But, contrary to what you might think, it’s not the aftermath of Hurricane Ian that’s pushing them out. Instead, it’s the owner of the property herself providing all the push.
The people who call the Gasparilla Mobile Estates home are recovering, and rebuilding, and they’re working together after Ian.
One of those people living in the mobile estates is Gary DuPree.
“Anyone needs assistance moving stuff I’m here just knock on my door,” DuPree said.
A kind gesture from DuPree, especially considering he lost everything in the storm.
But, the people won’t be leaving anytime soon, even after the owner of the park sent the email saying by Nov. 7, all your stuff has to be packed up and you have to be gone.
Larry Clontz lives in the estates and poignantly said the email is “Heartless”.
“Unbelievable, cold to give folks 28 days to get out,” Clontz lamented.
The email said they’re unable to provide essentials so homeowners turn in your titles.
“I brought them back in, she’s forcing everyone out,” Clontz said. “No power, no water, no sewer.”
WINK News attempted to seek answers from the woman who owns the park and got no response.
Clontz’s home has had thousands of dollars invested into it so he and his wife leaving, they say, not going to happen.
“Inconsiderate to people who live here, it’s all they got. It’s a 55 and older park, so they have nowhere to go. The housing market is slammed,” Clontz said.
