Yussuf Poulsen has scored a first-half brace as holders RB Leipzig reached the third round of the German Cup with a 4-0 win over SV Hamburg.
Miro Muheim hit the crossbar in a bright start for second division Hamburg but the hosts then went ahead with very similar goals in a span of three minutes.
Poulsen tapped the first in the 33rd minute off Mohamed Simakan’s low cross from the right. The Dane was a little closer to the left post in the 36th to convert Andre Silva’s cross, again from the right.
A looping header from Simakan in the 69th and Benjamin Henrichs on the counter in the 82nd completed the win for Leipzig.
It was another setback for last season’s semi-finalists Hamburg who had lost 3-0 in the league against crosstown rivals St Pauli last weekend.
Eintracht Frankfurt made the last 16 by winning 2-0 at fifth-tier Stuttgarter Kickers; Mainz prevailed 3-0 at fourth division VfB Lubeck; and second tier Nuremberg edged third-division Waldhof Mannheim 1-0.
The four later kick-offs on Tuesday include Hoffenheim v Schalke. Among the remaining eight games Wednesday are Augsburg against record cup winners Bayern Munich and Hanover v Borussia Dortmund.
