Kenya Power and Lighting Company, in Partnership with Sweden firm ROAM Electric, has launched the first-ever electric commuter bus in Nairobi.

The bus has a capacity of 77 passengers and can carry up to 90% of commuters.

Speaking during the launch on Wednesday, October 19, ROAM Kenya transport representative Dennis Wakaba said the bus could run for a whole day in full charge.
“We have the bus ranking for a whole day without the need of a charge. It guarantees access to comfortable, equitable and reliable public transport,” said Wakaba.

Wakaba noted the bus requires less maintenance and cut operational costs by 50%.
