Former prime minister Raila Odinga’s daughter Winnie has painfully recounted the day her father almost died in March 2021 when he contracted COVID-19.

The ODM boss contracted the deadly contagious virus in March last year, and though the country was assured that he was doing well, Winnie revealed her father was seriously fighting the disease.
Speaking to the Daily Nation, the 31-year-old said in two separate instances, she found her dad on the brink of death while in isolation.

In the first incident, Winnie went to check on her dad in the isolation room and found that his oxygen mask had fallen on the floor, and he was gasping for air.

She quickly fixed it back and helped him breathe again.
In the second instance, Winnie entered the room and found her dad’s temperature was through the roof, and she had to give him some paracetamol quickly.
Winnie on Raila’s loss in August elections
While reacting to Azimio la Umoja’s debacle in the August elections, Winnie said she was not to blame, and neither did she sabotage her father’s campaign as a section of Azimio supporters have been claiming.
“I was a mere worker and supporter just like other millions of Kenyans. Azimio and not Winnie is working on getting to the bottom of what happened. In the meantime, I will let the accusations be and focus instead on the bigger future, the future,” she said.

She said her father and the entire Odinga family have been handling his loss very well and were already bouncing back.
On claims made that Uhuru played Raila, Winnie said she was also yet to understand how Uhuru lost the influence of the system.
