According to a new study, adults prefer to be lied to, MailLine reported, citing a study by scientists from Texas State University.
According to the scientists’ conclusions, children who tell the truth have more trouble with adults than children who prefer to keep quiet. Dr Laure Brumbeil, lead author of the study, says parents are shocked and saddened when they hear the brutal truth spoken by children. This is contrary to the fact that children are taught not to lie.
The study was conducted among 267 adults who watched videos of children between the ages of 6 and 15. The results show that, on the whole, adults have better impressions of children who “lie nobly” or “behave politely.”
Children learn honesty under very difficult circumstances, says Dr. Brumbeil. Growing up, they get mixed messages. It’s amazing how young children engage in the nuances of lying.
