Edin Dzeko has scored a brace to help Inter Milan beat Viktoria Plzen 4-0 and advance to the Champions League last-16, while simultaneously eliminating Barcelona.
The Spanish club are yet to play against Bayern Munich later on Wednesday but now have no chance of reaching the knock-outs.
Inter were the better team from the start at the San Siro but it took 35 minutes before Henrikh Mkhitaryan was able to break the deadlock after an assist from Dzeko.
The Bosnian striker got one goal himself shortly before the break and another one in the 66th minute.
Romelu Lukaku, recovered from injury and on his first appearance since August, sealed the qualification with a late fourth.
Elsewhere, Porto scored three goals in 13 minutes to beat Club Brugge 4-0 and keep their hopes of reaching the knock-out stages alive.
Mehdi Taremi opened the scoring in 33th minute to give Porto the lead, but that was threatened when Brugge were awarded a penalty in the second half.
Keeper Diego Costa saved Hans Vanaken’s attempt but there was encroachment so the spot-kick had to be retaken – only for Costa to dive the other way and stop Noa Lang this time.
Porto gained momentum and Evanilson (57th minute), Stephen Eustaquio (60th) and Taremi again (70th) secured a very important away win.
The Portuguese will now be through to the last 16 if Atletico Madrid lose their game against Bayer Leverkusen later on Friday.
