This podcast comes to you after another rough loss to Toronto where the Sixers did not have an answer for the length and athleticism of the Raptors. Lucas Johnson and Christopher Kline bring plenty of insight on a game that was frustrating to watch as Sixers fans.
The podcast jumps right into the team stats and box score of a game that would be a constant uphill climb for the 76ers thanks to poor defense. With Pascal Siakam getting into an early groove and then Gary Trent Jr. heating up in the second half, the 76ers struggled to hang with the talented wings of Toronto. We elaborate on the Sixers’ starting lineup and then summarize the overall ineffectiveness of Philly’s bench.
The next topic revolves around the first win of the season for the Sixers. Over the weekend, the Sixers took on the Indiana Pacers at the Wells Fargo Center. Although the Pacers showed fight in this game, the 76ers simply overpowered them in the end. We emphasize good aspects from the game and derive reasons to have optimism about the Sixers despite the inconsistent play from a number of players new to the team.
We then discuss the idea that Indiana could be in the running for the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes. The best NBA prospect since LeBron James, Wembanyama has drawn tremendous praise because of his freakish game style and physical gifts. Could the Pacers be a front-runner for the next coming of Giannis Antetokounmpo?
We finish our Sixers conversation talking specifically about Tyrese Maxey. The third-year guard had his best game of the season against the Raptors, and we looked into a comparison of Maxey that some would think is unfair. Ja Morant’s star has launched, and he seems to be in a category of his own. However, De’Anthony Melton was interviewed recently where he was asked how his former teammate’s game is similar to Maxey. We debate the assessment of Melton as he offered insight on two of the NBA’s fastest players with promising futures.
