People in Afghanistan continue to face the threat of terrorism more than one year after the Taliban reclaimed control of the country.
The Taliban established an interim government after seizing the capital Kabul in August last year. But there has been no end to terrorist attacks from the Islamic State and other militant groups.
A suicide attack in September in front of the Russian embassy in Kabul killed six people, including two embassy staff. Another explosion at an education center killed 53 people, including 46 women.
A former ISIS militant told NHK that the group is trying to overthrow the Taliban and gain public support. He said poor people without jobs may join ISIS as the group has money and material goods.
A Taliban source says ISIS is killing civilians and wants the world to see Afghanistan as a lawless zone. The person says the militants will be detained and brought to justice.
Assistant Professor Syed Irfan Ashraf of the University of Peshawar warns that people in Afghanistan may pick up weapons and violence could rise as winter approaches and the economy slumps.
