A Metra UP-NW train fatally struck a female pedestrian near Arlington Heights Wednesday morning, causing extensive delays and halting certain operations, according to officials.
At around 5:50 a.m., outbound train No. 603 hit the pedestrian near the railroad crossing at North Ridge Avenue and Northwest Highway, causing inbound and outbound trains to halt, according to police and Metra.
The Metra Police Department was on the scene investigating and anticipated the crossing would be closed for a few hours, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.
Services resumed shortly after 8 a.m.
