100 Days in Office: Kenyans Remind President William Ruto About Promises He Made

• President William Ruto’s first 100 days in office are yet to be over on Tuesday, December 13, 2022
• During his campaigns, Ruto promised to reduce the cost of living once sworn into office after the August 2022 Election
• Among the things he promised to do three months into office was to reduce unga prices and fuel prices and create jobs, among others
• The majority of Kenyans feel that the Kenya Kwanza administration has not done much, reminding Ruto of his pledges

Kenyans have expressed concerns over President William Ruto’s government and the promises made during the campaign period.

Ruto promised to reduce the cost of living in the first 100 days after taking the oath of office.

Ruto’s pledges in 100 days

Among the things that the president promised to do in his 100 days included reducing food and fuel prices, creating jobs and providing affordable credit.

Others included the support to farmers through the provision of subsidised fertiliser and heavy investment in agro-processing industries.

But most Kenyans felt the government failed in achieving key promises since Ruto took the oath of office on September 13, 2022.

Hustler Fund

Speaking to Citizen TV, residents of Kisii faulted the recently launched KSh 50 billion Hustler Fund.

They said the loan limit allocated is insufficient to start a simple business like egg selling.

“The Hustler Fund is too small. It cannot sustain Kenyans. We say thank you, Mr President, for supporting us with KSh 500 airtime. That money cannot even buy a crate of eggs which currently sells at KSh 600,” decried Kisii resident.

Some argued that the lowest loan limit could have been about KSh 5,000, a reasonable business capital.

“They have tried, but unga prices are still high. They reduced fertiliser prices but have not reached out to all Kenyans,” said Nyamira resident.

“It is 80 days now, yet unga, fuel prices are still high. People are still lamenting, yet no solution. I am a carpenter, and for sure, the KSh 500 from Hustler Fund cannot help because it cannot buy either vanish or sandpaper,” decried a resident from Nandi.

Unga and fuel prices remained relatively high for two months to November 2022, as inflation rates continued to bite.

Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) report showed that food and fuel prices remained high at 15.4% and 13.8%, respectively.
