Raila Odinga to Lead Kenyans in Anti-William Ruto Protests for Record 30 Days

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga has planned a consultative forum to guide his followers.

The veteran politician is expected to launch a 30-day anti-government protest against President William Ruto’s administration.

The Nation reported that the coalition’s top organ, led by former president Uhuru Kenyatta had given him the green light to conduct the meetings.

The meetings set to be launched today, Wednesday, November 7, at Kamukunji grounds will include a separate Jamhuri Day celebration at Jacaranda grounds.

General state affairs

The ODM leader had reported that the consultations would be about the country’s direction under the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“The consultations are also about the IEBC, which is being cannibalised, the consequences of which shall be grim. We will, therefore, be gathering to discuss the general state of affairs of our nation and the direction the regime is taking,” Raila said.

Raila is expected to express his displeasure at the recent appointments in the Ruto administration, whom he says have not fulfilled Chapter Six of the Constitution.

“We are also concerned about the very brazen attack on Chapter Six of our Constitution. Brazen because the accused are being appointed to critical public offices that have immense bearing on whether we grow or stagnate as a country,” he added.

Gachagua rules out handshake between Raila and Ruto

In another development, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua termed the planned protest rallies by the ODM leader as a ploy to engineer a handshake between him and Ruto.

During an inter-denominational church service at Embu University on Sunday, December 3, Gachagua said the upcoming demos were meant to instill fear in Ruto.

However, the second in command said Raila was free to stage his demonstrations, but the Kenya Kwanza government would not entertain a handshake between the opposition chief and Ruto.

“Now that we have defeated him, he has again started the language of demonstrations, and his goal is still the same; scare the president and be invited for a handshake. We do not want him in our government. He can protest all day, morning, and evening, but there will be no handshake,” he said.
