Charlize Theron is mother to seven-year-old August and 10-year-old Jackson. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the mother-of-two shared how her girls are voicing their opinions about her work life and they are hilarious!
“In their heads, they’re like, ‘We know you work, but we’re not 100 percent sure what you do,’” the 47-year-old mother told the popular entertainment news outlet. “My younger one goes, ‘Oh my God, Mom, it feels like you can’t hold a job.’”
She continued with her eldest daughter’s reaction to her Dior ads.
“My older one, she’s a pre-teen now, so there are moments, like, we’re walking through an airport and [she sees me on a Dior billboard] and she’s just like, ‘Oh my God, you’re on a f—— wall with no shirt, Mom. This is so embarrassing. Put a shirt on!’ ” The School of Good and Evil actress shared.
Theron began her motherhood journey in 2012 by adopting daughter Jackson. Three years later, The Addams Family 2 actress adopted again in 2015, expanding her family with her daughter August.
“Even when I was in relationships, I was always honest with my partners, that adoption was how my family would look one day,” Theron said in a past interview with People Magazine. “This was definitely not a second option for me. It was always my first.”
Both of Theron’s daughters are Black and the South African actress, who grew up in the country during the apartheid era, has always been very candid about adopting young Black girls.
“I want them to know who they are, and I want them to be so f—ing proud of who they are,” she said. “Building confidence for them right now is an oath I made to myself when I brought them home. They need to know where they come from and be proud of that. But they’re going to have to know that it’s a different climate for them than it is for me, and how unfair that is. If I can do something about that, of course I’m going to.”
And to help her raise her daughter’s the way she has pledged to, Theron has surrounded herself with a village of Black women, saying to Essence Magazine that she wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I am so grateful to the incredible village of strong Black women in my life who I can pick up a phone to, or come over to my house and they’ll tell me: ‘You need to stop doing this,’ or ‘these baby hairs are breaking off. What are you doing?’” Theron shared. “So they put me in my place, and because of them I feel this great confidence in raising my girls.”
We cannot wait to see this trio’s life’s journey. It seems as it it is going to be one filled with love, fun, and complete and utter honesty.
