There is an unabating argument from a corner of the South African sports-loving public who remain convinced that the quality of domestic cricket in this country is poor.
Those concerns were heightened when, at the start of the current season, the six-team franchise system was scrapped in favour of a more traditional provincial structure.
There are eight teams in Division 1 and seven in Division 2, for a total of 15 regions that now have to sustain themselves financially and produce cricketers, and that expansion understandably raised eyebrows over whether the overall product would become diluted.
