After no decisive result from three separate attempts to vote for an in-house speaker, Republicans will have to “make more concessions”, says University of Sydney Political Scientist Simon Jackman.
Mr Jackson said “fringe groups” inside the Republican Party are anxious and minority leader Kevin McCarthy “is going to run to the centre and, at times, even do deals with the Biden administration”.
“He’s going to have to offer them something he hasn’t offered yet,” he told Sky News Australia.
“It’s going to be line-ball vote counting until this thing gets done.”
