The Kent State track and field program heads to its first competition of the 2022-23 indoor season Saturday, traveling to Bowling Green for the Falcon Early Bird Open.
Competition inside Perry Field House, site of the 2023 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships in February, begins with field events at 12 p.m. The women’s 60-meter hurdles prelims get the action on the track started at 1 p.m. The meet’s final race, the men’s 4×400 relay, is scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
Kent State has 60 student-athletes slated for competition, including 20 slated to make their debuts in a Flashes uniform.
The men’s team will have two All-MAC performers from 2022, as Alexandre Malanda (triple jump) and Alexander Shields (60-meter hurdles) finished as runner-up in their respective events at last year’s conference meet. Asa Hodrick (60-meter dash), Del’Mario Hairston (long jump), Jaheim Jones (60-meter dash) and Nolan Landis (shot put) all posted top-4 MAC finishes a season ago.
Two-time defending MAC indoor pole vault champion Leah Pasqualetti leads the list of entries for the women’s team. Lillie Franks (high jump) and Grace Luther (weight throw) placed third and fourth, respectively, at last season’s conference meet.
