MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES — Sierra Tel, serving both Eastern Madera County and Mariposa County, announces that its 2023 telephone directory recounts the long history of Midpines Food and Gas.
The directory story briefly recounts the times gone by of the 1926 Carstens building, located at the intersection of Carsten’s Road and Highway 140 in Midpines, that is now Midpines Food and Gas.
Long before the Oak Fire started, the store had been chosen as the theme of the 2023 book, and while Sierra is saddened by the many community losses that resulted from the fire, they are thankful that this piece of history survived such a tragic wildfire.
The directory includes business and residential phone numbers for:
- Oakhurst
- Ahwahnee
- Bass Lake
- Fish Camp
- Yosemite
- Coarsegold
- Raymond
- North Fork
- Mariposa
- Catheys Valley
- Coulterville
- Hornitos
- Mt. Bullion
- Midpines
Also included in the directory is useful information about government representatives, emergency preparedness and emergency numbers, senior services, caller ID blocking, Sierra Tel customer services, schools, community information, and a calendar of events.
As a result of the blizzards back east, delivery of the over 18,000 copies of the directory were slightly delayed but began being distributed through the mail the first week of January. In Mid-February additional copies will be available at Sierra Tel offices.
After multiple local weather-related delays, Vice President and General Manager of Sierra Tel, Robert Griffin, was able to present the book and thank the store’s owners, Manpreet Kaur and Inderjit Singh, for allowing us to share the story of Midpines Food and Gas with our communities.
