Sunday night Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers made a bold statement about Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James‘ career. Rivers made the comments before Philly’s match against the Lakers in Los Angeles.
“I think he’s (LeBron James) going to have the greatest career of all time. I think he’s already had it. And that’s not … I think Michael (Jordan) is the greatest of all time, but that doesn’t take anything away from LeBron. LeBron’s had the greatest career.”
This bold statement about James’ career immediately started some controversy. It doesn’t settle any debates about who’s the best but perhaps adds more fuel to the heated topic of James vs. Jordan. It’s a discussion that will likely last a lifetime and one most fans love to join in on.
The 76ers spoiled James’ legendary night
Although Rivers had good things to say about James, the goal was to beat him and the Lakers. Later that evening, the 76ere did just that in a controversial nail-biter that came down to the last second. The 76ers were victorious, winning the matchup 113-112.
James matched a game-high 35 points with Sixers Joel Embiid and eclipsed 38k points in his career. The legendary star became only the second player in the history of the NBA to reach that milestone. But, in the end, it wasn’t enough, and the Lakers’ record dropped to 19-24, and the 76ers improved to 27-16.
The Sixers celebrated the win, and James made history. Now, both teams will go their separate ways and continue their journeys. One group has its eye on winning a championship, and the other is trying to get back to that level of competition.
Meanwhile, James will continue to make history. The superstar is showing no signs of slowing down and is on pace to become the All-Time leading scorer in the history of the NBA. James will get closer to that goal when he faces the Sacramento Kings at home on Wednesday.
